I was reading another thread on here the other day about giving up smoking - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/3327-67-smoking

So I was wondering if there is anyone with any experience of electronic cigarettes and did it help you give up smoking?

More about : electronic cigarettes give smoking

Well, I've been doing a little research while waiting for an answer and came across a number of electronic cigarette manufacturers.

The one that caught my eye was this one - www.vapestick.co.uk

So, still wondering if anyone has been successful in giving up smoking by using an electronic cigarette and whether you have any opinions on the vapestick above.

Thanks

I had been smoking for 40 years & starting getting asthma, sinus problems & of course coughing. Fell & broke a rib & thought I punctured a lung so I stopped..As I started getting better I hadnt smoked but still wanted the sucking cessation & exhaling knowledge. I started using the e-cigs & they have helped & I dont use them alot as you will see but I have started coughing again so I plan to slow down on these, however I refuse to start smoking again. You can do it! No opinion on the vapostick, sorry.

I don't really know lol because i haven't been on it but yeah i have seen a friend mine experiencing it.He got rid of smoking through the help of E cigarette.
All you need is compromise with your addition to the taste and i guess that really works.

The medical literature has not studied electronic cigarettes in great detail but preliminary studies suggest they are not very effective and thus they are not currently recommended as a smoking cessation aid. The one thing that was repeatedly noted is that there is a wide variation in electronic cigarettes and nicotine doses varied quite a bit. The long-term safety of the vapor compound is also unknown. That's not to say that current e-cigs can't help people quit smoking as smoking is nearly all a psychological dependence and not a physical one like opioids. We just don't really know yet.

My guess is that there won't be much for real in-depth controlled studies until a large company decides to market one specifically for smoking cessation and the FDA gets involved and mandates a clinical trial. The QC of the resulting smoking cessation e-cig will be much better than the ones at the 7-11 and they'll be super expensive too, plus come in a step-down dosage pattern like other nicotine replacement systems. My guess is they'll be moderately effective just like the other nicotine replacement systems we have- gums, patches, etc.

Many health experts have suggested that Electronic cigarettes are a good and healthy alternative for regular cigarettes. They also help in quitting smoking and regain good old health.

Hi M,

I saw your post and decided to share my story with you. Hopefully it will help you make the right decision.
I have been smoking for over 15 years, 2+ packs a day. I had severe health issues, mostly related to asthma and bronchitis. I was barely able to walk up the stairs without loosing my breath.
I heard about electronic cigarettes and decided to give them a try. That was three years ago. Since I knew nothing about it, I bought the cheapest product, one that was available in my country. 2 days later I was back on regular cigarettes. But then I started doing some additional research and realized that not all e-cigarettes are the same. As with everything, there are low-quality and high-quality products.
I gave it another try and bought a V2 e-cigarette (you can check it out here: http://ismokehealthy.net/). That was 2,5 years ago and I never smoked another 'real cigarette' again!!
I am feeling like a 18-year old again. I have no health issues what so ever. I run 5km+ every morning, my skin looks younger, my teeth whiter... all in all I would recommend it to everyone who is having trouble giving up smoking.

Hope this helps,

PS. Here's the link again, if you want to give it a try:

humm, here's what I did: I bought one, smoked it between cigarettes and doubled my smoking, in fact. There was a time when i only smoked the e-cig (you have no cigarette smell, so the non smoking girlfriend pushed it on me) but I didn't stop smoking, i just replaced smoking one thing with something else. I don't smoke for 2 months now, but because i decided i needed to, not because i replaced it with something else.

So I guess the final answer would be: no! lool But it it cheaper!

I know someone who shifted to e-cig. He hasn't managed to stop smoking, instead going back to cigarette smoking because as he said it is much tastier than the electronic one. Sigh.
