i currently have the radeon hd 7870 ghz edition and i was looking into buying another video card. i was hoping to get a radeon hd 7950. as far as i know you cannot cross fire these cards. why is that. the clock speeds and everything are faster with my card. so shouldnt i be able to pair these cards together? any help would be appreciated

if you need to know my system
asus z77 motherboard
corsair vengence ram 16 gig
intel 2700k
getting a 1250 watt psu not sure what one as of yet

the cards use different gpu chips, codenamed Tahiti (used in 7950/7970/7870xt) and Pitcairn (7870GHz/7850), Tahiti is a lot bigger and has more stuff (shaders etc) on it. And no, you can't crossfire them.

edit anyways it is always better to get identical cards for crossfire...

thats what i kinda figured so it looks like im going to be getting another 7870 then. i dont think a 850 watt psu can support 2 video cards. i blew my old 500 watt with just one video card lol and yea i do have some over clocking going on. my cpu is overclocked to 4.8 ghz and my video card is also overclocked
