Below is a list of the components

Motherboard- ASUS P8Z77 WS
CPU - i7 3770k
VGA- MSI GTX 670 2GB/OC
RAM- CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB 1600
PSU- SeaSonic X Series X-850
Heatsink- COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus
Case- Corsair Obsidian 650D

Storage
SSD - Plextor M5S Series 128GB for OS & programs
Generic 1.5TB HDD for files

ASUS 12x Blu-Ray

I know that much ram is not needed, but I plan to use the excess as a RAMDISK. ASUS motherboards seem to have good support for it.

I am upgrading to a better computer to utilize engineering software. It is mostly number crunching but involves a good deal of 3D modeling as well. I like games too.

If I were to overclock the 3770k with the current cooler what would be a good number to shoot for. I am kind disappointed I noticed the 212 plus has been replaced with the 212 evo after I bought it. Looking at the changes there is not much difference just better contact with the CPU and a better stock fan. If i do a push pull configuration will it be the same?

So if I could get to 4.5 that would be great, but I will be happy with 4.0 if that's what it comes down to. I have a feeling ambient temperature will be the biggest factor anyway.

also any criticism is welcomed

Thank you for your input, maybe now I wont have to sit and watch a loading bar for 45 minuets.

Its kind of eyebrow raising when some of the analysis takes 4GB of ram just to store all the numbers.

Just do the push pull configuration on your 212 EVO using 2 Noctua P12 fans and you'll be fine overclocking your 3770k
