Can someone explain why monitors such as the Catleaps and Shimians and such REQUIRE specific GPUs?

Hi,

I understand the issue with ones that are "Quad-HD" resolutions (2560x1440) that aren't supported by onboard GPUs such as the Intel HD 3000. But, I was looking at a 24" Catleap that is 1920X1080 and they specifically state you can't use onboard GPUs nor Macbook Pros (which work with Apple Thunderbolt Displays). In fact they list specific GPUs that will work?

I can't really find a definitive answer as to what the deal is with requiring specfic GPUs. Any assistance with this would be great.

Most Intel IGP are just not powerful enough for any heavy use at that ress such as editing and gaming but if they are DVI/HDMI you can try anyway. The only other reason that I can think off hand is driver realted but don't see why Intel IGP couldn't work with those monitors for single link DVI.

I understand that at Quad-HD they won't work very well. But, at 1920 x 1080? I would think they would be fine. But, the sellers specifically give a list of compatible GPUs. I just don't get it.

I guess that it has to be the driver not supporting that ress or something annoying and inconvenient about Intel IGP that doesn't work well with these monitors. If they say it won't work there has to be a reason..
