Currently we are running a windows network with around 7 servers divided amoungst many functions.
Recently, it was requested that I build a Linux Based web server for internal use. As things got moving the idea snow balled into more of a Windows Server (2008 or 2012) that would run a Linux web in a VM... the idea was also to prehaps run a secondary domain controller, WSUS and deployment server on VMs there as well using.
As nothing on this box would be mission critical is it wise to use Server CPUS for this undertaking or would it be OK to use a desktop CPU? If we were to use a desktop CPU we were looking at AMDs FX-8350 or a Core™ i7-3820 Processor.
Another problem I have is never virtualizing Linux. What would someone suggest in order the optimize this setup?
