I am new to building pcs, have been a console gamer for as long as I can remember and have decided to make the switch to PC. :D
I have been looking around the internet and trying to find a good build for a upgrade able Gaming Pc for ~500.00.
I have to stick to a low budget for now and upgrade over time. My main consern is I am looking to play games such as Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, and Bioshock on med-low settings at a decent frame rate. I was wondering if this build would do that until I can upgrade. Thanks much guys. :D

Short answer, yes it will.

After reviewing the parts you listed I'm worried about it. It's not a very good system.. at all.

I know you have a tight budget but you can definitely do alot more with your money.

You don't have to use this build exactly, but it's a much better value.

Here are the parts:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor $81.99
Motherboard: ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard $61.97
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory $29.99
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $54.99
Video Card: HIS Radeon HD 7870 2GB Video Card $214.98
Case: Apex Vortex 3620 ATX Mid Tower Case $31.62
Power Supply: XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply $53.99
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224BB DVD/CD Writer $15.99

Thank you for the reply. Like I said I am quite new to this. I was thinking if there are any pre-builts that could run these things on low settings with a full size case I could buy that and upgrade over time? Like I said, super new to this. I also looked up the parts you gave me and the cart total was over 600.00, I don't know if I just looked them up wrong or not, but I've been at this for a week now and cant seem to find a build that i like in my budget, thinking a pre-built might be cheaper, considering I also need a OS and keyboard+mouse. Thoughts?

Even going the pre-built method, you will have to cheap out on a few of the parts.

You can do it, and yes it will run Diablo 3.

Is it possible to save any more money? it would definitely be worthwhile in terms of a price to performance ratio to save some extra dollars.

It's rather obvious, but the more you are able to save the greater your PC gaming experience will be.

Here's a couple of pre-built PC's for you.

Out of those, I recommend the first.

I recently built my desktop, to run games like Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, etc. (ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 mobo, AMD FX4100 3.6GHz quad CPU, 2GB HD6570 video card, 8GB ram, 2TB HDD)

I used http://www.game-debate.com/ to check system and game compatibility.
I used http://pcpartpicker.com/ as well as tigerdirect and newegg in choosing the hardware.

To address OP's concern, your build should run those games.
But if your purpose for building PC is primarily for gaming, people (generally) say that you should invest in mobo, CPU, and graphic card.
Also, back in the day there was one fan for CPU, but nowadays people care about airflow, multiple case fans, and advanced CPU cooling mechanisms.

hope that helps

If you haven't purchased everything yet, I just checked the parts in newegg a few minutes ago. Also, we're graced with a new budget powerhouse; nvidia's GTX 650 Ti Boost.

It's leaps and bounds faster than the 7770 GHz edition, and moderately more expensive. It should fit in your budget still.
