Between 7970 3GB vs 670 2GB, or even 7950 3gb/660ti 2gb

if i buy 7970 3GB now and wouldn't upgrade my gpu for AT LEAST 3 years, would this 1GB more gave me more
acceptable fps/resolution then 670 2GB later on,if we would of course "assume" in 3 years games
will utilize more then 2GB.
Or really it wouldnt be much of a difference?
I would probably also put some number of mods that would come with games later in future.

I have a GTX 650Ti 2GB and I do many GPU Intensive tasks for an e.g. Video Editing Rendering at the same time and my friend has a 7950 3GB. He was using the same card as me and him dont really notice the difference

Theres no such thing as futureproof, by the time more than 2GB is needed any of those cards will be useless. That said anything from the AMD side is better, the 670 is alot slower than the 7970, as is the 680.

The extra gig of ram comes in handy if you're running high resolutions. When running games in EyeFinity (3x Monitors 5760x1080) there are several games already that I'm seeing go past 2 gigs of ram useage. For normal resolutions, while not as important that are some games that are already going past the 2 gig mark. If its in your budget, a 7970 is a good card so I'd say go for it.

Memory wise 3GB will hold out longer than a 2GB card will and to be more honest about it go with a card that uses the same overall architecture as next gen consoles so even when the 7970 is horribly outdated it will still play console ports with hardly no compromise.
