How much of a bottleneck? 660 ti

Hi all,im posting on behalf of a friend as i carnt really answer his questions,his specs are

I3 2120 3.3 ghz cpu
8 GB 1333 mhz ram
750 w psu
Gigabyte g8-h61m-s2pv motherboard
1336 x 768 native moniter resolution


Hes planning on buying a palit gtx 660 ti jetstream graphics carnt but were wondering how much of a bottleneck his pc would be? hes moniter max res is low as well.

Hmm you don't need a 660 ti for 1336x768. The highest I would go is a 7770 or a 650ti. That way, you save money and get almost the same performance. Anything above that will be useless for that setup.

what about if he upgrades his moniter so its 1920 x 1080? hes trying to plan for the future as well.
 


Graphics bottlenecks are more complicated than that - it really all depends on the game. And lower resolutions are more dependent on the CPU than at 1080p, but NO, you will not get the same performance out of a card that's only half as powerful. With a beast of a card like that, your friend will be running almost all games at 60fps, but as I can attest, the i3 will cause lots of drops below that, depending on the game. A 1080p monitor would be a great upgrade.
