hooking up a PS3 to my dell u2412

ive been looking into this as i quite fancy playing MGS on my main monitor, problem is ive no method of getting sound out of it. from the looks of it i have 3 ways of doing this, buy a USB 3.5mm jack device, which i hear are unreliable unless you spend a bit on them, or, buy a device which seperates the audio and video from the HDMI and outputs via DVI and 3.5mm, or buy a device which converts the digital audio from its optical audio jack to analogue. anyone else got their ps3 hooked up to a monitor that doesnt have an audio jack?
