So my monitor is VG248QE
Graphics card is Gigabyte 7970 GHZ edition
Plugged through a high speed HDMI cable of 15gbt/s

How do I get 144ghz? and why does my catalyst get me to 1280 x 1240 when I switch to 75ghz?

Thanks all in advance.

Are you using the Dual-link DVI port/cable?

YES the answer is even the very high speed HDMI is not capable of anything higher than 60hz at 1900 x 1080
Currently you have to use Dual Link. The HDMI Capable of such performance will only become available this summer.

You might already be doing this but if you are using windows 7, do the following. right click desktop> screen resolution> advanced settings> monitor and there is a setting for refresh rate. I just bought the same monitor and was using 60hz until I did this today lol I also have a 7970. Your frame rate is going to drop like an anvil, but it's so smooth.
