Hi all,im posting on behalf of a friend as hes debating what cpu to get,i said about just getting the one with the higher benchmark scores etc but he wants to know if anything would limit the cpu and be worthless spending more his current specs are

I3 2120 3.3 ghz cpu
8 GB 1333 mhz ram
750 w psu
Gigabyte g8-h61m-s2pv motherboard
1336 x 768 native moniter resolution
(im also giving him my 560 ti soon)

should he get the i5 3350p or the i5 3470?

What 750w PSU? 750w is a bit overkill for this, but still nice to have for future upgrades. :D The i5 3470 would be a great choice. It will game better. If you do not give him your graphics card right away, or he has none to run temporarily until you do, do not get the i5 3350p. It doesn't have the intel graphics on the chip, making the system unusable without a dedicated card. Make sure that board has bios support first though.

not sure think the psu was just a ebay one :p he has a 4870 which i gave him ages ago so not worried about graphics etc :) not sure about the bios thing either il look into it now. so if its not about graphics would u still pick the 3470

did u mean by bios if the mobo supports that cpu?

If graphics won't be a problem, then save the $20 and get the 3350p. You probably won't see a real difference in speed between the two. Yes, make sure the board supports the CPU and has the necessary bios revision if it does.

Haha ok I would go for the i5 3470, because, well, the 3350P is a Laptop processor. It won't work on a desktop system. So then you'll have to rule out the 3350P, and the only choice left would be the 3470. I would go for that one if I'm not getting a laptop. I hope this helped, and rate as best answer if you found what you needed.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the suffix letter P that comes after the SKU mean power efficient mobile processor?

The "p" at the end is for chips that don't have intergrated graphics on the chip. There are power saving desktop chips with an "s" at the end. Laptop cpu's would have an "m" at the end like this.

lol ok I also looked at the Intel website for its suffixes and that's what I read there. Anyways, other sources are telling me that you're correct, so I guess I was wrong. But still go for the 3470 it's cheaper than the 3350 and also performs better. (Prices from Amazon.com)
