Which of these two computers is most worth keeping? (I have now added the cpu-z info!)

Hello, I hope this is in the correct place. Probably not. :|

Basically I have two old computers in my loft which don't get used. I think I will keep one for emergencies/backup/because I'm paranoid etc but I don't really need two. I know about RAM and HDD sizes but other than that I don't really know what stuff is best. Obviously I want to keep the best computer. I know enough to switch RAM and HDDs (and reinstall XP is necessary since I have a disc and an OEM code for each machine). I can then scrap/sell the parts (I actually only thought to check these computers because I needed some PC3200 RAM which sells for £15 on eBay and luckily I had some rather than buying, so while idk if anything in there is worth selling, it isn't an entirely ridiculous idea. :p One of the cases is a bit bigger (is this a pro-point?).

If I post the cpu-z stats for each machine would anybody be able to tell me which to keep/improve with the others' parts? Thanks :)

Hi, thanks :)
It's partly a learning experience of computer building (as in moving stuff between them etc) with little risk. Plus I don't like throwing stuff away :p so getting rid of one is a compromise. Plus I'd like a 32bit system in the house and might try out linux on it as well.

It would make a good linux box plus the dedicated radeon in it would give it a little edge too.

Cool :) nobody else seems to have an opinion so I guess I'll go with what you said. I prefer the case anyways, it's cute and smaller (although I know that's not necessarily a good thing), lighter and was my first computer (hence its age).

Hmm. I was going to move the hard drive from computer one into my current computer for extra space and replace it with the hard drive from computer two (and then dispose of computer two) but the hard drive in computer two doesn't have a SATA cable but a ribbon thing. :| Is it a pre-SATA drive connection? Would it still be transferable into computer one?

I tried moving the HDD into computer one and now when I turn the computer on nothing appears on the screen. I tried putting the SATA drive back and still nothing appears on screen. I stupidly didn't test it before moving the HDD but after putting in the new RAM so now I don't know if its the RAM at fault or if I've broken something... :| The fans are whirring and everything looks on. Shouldn't some words appear on the screen even if it can't load? Could the RAM be incompatible?

OK I took one RAM stick out and now it is booting :) I don't know what was wrong with the other RAM, it seems to have the same specs as the RAM which is in there and it worked in my other machine too. :|

check the cable to the monitor first then check all the power supply cable to the board then try the ram although its most likely the ram but that way you eliminate other causes
