What happened with RAM prices?

I've noticed recently that DDR3 has skyrocketed in price. When i got my 8gb 1600 kingston hyper x blu, it was $35 and now costs $60, and gskill sniper 8gb that was $38 is now $65. Overall its rare to find any heatsinked 8gb 1600 for under $55, and similar 4gb sticks for $30. What the heck happened? lol for the cost of 1600 8gb of ram i could have gotten nice 16gb a few months ago

Its terrible, it is a terrible time to buy ram, if i wanted to spend $80 on 8gb ddr3, i would go get ddr2 lol I mean its to the point where 1333 is the cheapest but at the point where 1600 and 1866 were before. In early february u could get 8gb sniper 2133 for $50 where some 1333 and 1600 were above it alrdy with a higher price.

My friend was wondering if he should get new ram and my other friend is making a new build, and one isnt upgrading lol and the other is buying used 4gb of ddr3 for $12 off craigslist lol way better than 30
