hello guys,i need your knowledge and experience.

Let's say we have two builds one has intel i3 3220 and the other the intel i5 3330.Both have the same gpu,the radeon hd 7870.How many fps difference would there be between them due to the cpu in games like max payne 3 and far cry 3?

I know that if the gpu is a lot better(like 7970)there could be even 10 fps difference. But what if it's the 7870???

PS:I'm on a budget so i don't wanna spend extra money since i don't want to do any heavy gaming at the moment.

I'm not an expert when it comes to fps due to gpu in cpu's but i don't think there is much difference, the game just runs a bit better because it is a quad core. fps isn't noticeably difference so i would go with the i3 IMO because you have a tight budget, people usually don't choose i3's for hardcore gaming because they are mainly afraid of "bottlenecking" the gpu if its a really high class, but because the i3 core you have chosen is the latest model it shouldn't have a problem

Thanks for your reply.

You see,i don't care about playing games with this build in 2 years from now.By then,i will be working and if i see i really like pc gaming i will probably spend about 1000-1200 on a very good build.

but for the time being the 7870 is the most the i3 will have to handle. If it has to handle something more like a 7970 then i will probably have a totally new build with an i5 or newer.

So i only care about playing games like the above and DmC on ultra and maybe down to High at 1080p...

Anyone else?

yeah i know that about max payne. It uses a lot of cores.

Thank you for your reply. How about the psu?Do you think a 500 watt one would be enough?

well, depends, a good psu will have plenty of power supply. Rosewill, and corsair are pretty good brands just make sure you get psu's with 80+ certified on it, and modular cabling.

tdp of hd7870 is 175w and 180w (for tahiti based hd7870le special edition)
and i5-3330 is of 77w

so total 180+77= 257w for cpu and gpu and add 100-150w for other components like motherboard , hdd, cd/dvd-d, heatsink fan etc , so 400w total wattage of psu is needed (with atleast 300w or more combined wattage @12v rails (means minimum 25-30A current capacity at +12v)

so corsair vs430 or vs450 is enough for this setup or if you want to add more fans , hdd and overclock the gpu to max then you can go upto vx500

Crysis 3 performs better on more cores. Online Multiplayer games, especially MMO's will favor more cores. 3330 would be more ideal of a base if those are your two choices because of the multiplayer aspect.

Right now you can get an i5 3350p for only 165$ bucks on pcpartpicker.com. So with only the 30 dollar difference between the i3 and the i5, you should go with the i5.

Honestly, if you going to spend 130 bucks for an i3. You might as well go with the FX6300 if your on a budget. The FX 6300 might not perform quite as well(it's close)in games, but you can overclock it as well. And in most programs, the FX6300 will perform better than an i3, especially if you overclock it.

Thanks for the info.Yeah,i'm still doing a bit of research...And i am very indecisive....

i am actually thinking now to just keep on using my 512mb RAM dell latitude (lol)till the summer.By that time i will have gathered more money and i could probably build a pc with a good case etc so i can enjoy it as well... :)

btw in my country the 3350p is 167 euros which means 217 dollars...
