Is my motherboard bad

OK just built my comp and the power switch occasionally turns it on but all buttons and leds work. But sometimes the cpu fan will sure but that only happens when the monitor wont detect the signal. when i do get it to turn on fine after a few minutes it will turn itself off. Does this sound like a bad motherboard? thanks

It could also be the PSU.

Even if it shows power to my board? It also powered everything up when my gpu was in there but I took that out to test stuff use to be able to jump start with A screwdriver method but now that won't do it

You'll have to test the PSU or the motherbaord to determine which one is faulty. Don't you have at least an old PSU that could be used for testing purposes?

Ok hey guys i took my bros psu out of his pc and tried it and same crap powers off after a few minutes and occasionally will turn on

no i dont even have the gpu in

That leaves the motherboard, but did you test it outside of the case to make sure that a short isn't the issue?

how would a short be caused?

Part of the motherboard could be touching a post or something else. It's worth testing it outside of the case as you'll have to pull it out anyway to RMA it.
