Hey,

I want to know if this scenario is plausible. I have a usb 3.0 external hard drive and I want to connect it to my macs thunderbolt port. Can I use a Usb 3.0 to ethernet adapter and connect the ethernet from that to the ethernet to thunderbolt adapter to the mac? Do you think the Mac Osx will detect the drive ?

the short answer is NO

since the USB to Ethernet adapter requires drivers to function it will not be seen from the Mac.
