Approximate Purchase Date: this week
Budget Range: ~700-1000 CAD
System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming on my TV from the couch. No other use - I have a separate HTPC and a laptop for general purpose computing.
Are you buying a monitor: No
Parts to Upgrade: None, though I'll be reusing an existing hard drive.
Do you need to buy OS: Yes, planning on Windows 7 unless there's a good reason to buy Windows 8
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.ca, ncix.com (Canada), directcanada.com
Location: Ontario, Canada
Parts Preferences: None
Overclocking: No
SLI or Crossfire: No
Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 (Sony TV)
Additional Comments: I want a form factor that will fit in my TV stand (no higher or deeper than 15"/380mm, width doesn't matter)
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Replace my PS3 and play new games at high (but not max) settings for the next couple years.

This is the build that I'm considering, excluding a hard drive (reusing existing), wireless adapters, and peripherals (mostly reusing). Are there any areas I could reduce the price in without any noticeable effect on performance? I'm not worried about benchmarks, but just visible differences. Similarly, is there anything I should change (without spending too much more) for very noticeable differences in performance/quality?

Thanks for sharing your plans. I have been thinking of doing the same thing instead of getting the ps4, and will have a closer look at your suggestion later. I hope to be able to use the ps3 controller as well.
