Moving to SSD; how to make old 'boot' drive not system anymore?

What is the easy way to use my old "C:" drive as a non-boot drive now that I've re-installed Windows onto an SSD?

I could back everything up manually to another drive, re-format, and copy back the files that I need, but there must be a better way.

Edit: is it as easy as deleting the Windows folder from the old hard drive?

Make another partition on the old HDD, move the necessary files to that partition and format the C: one.
