Does the corsair cx750 psu need a fan connector for the motherboard?

I was wondering, do power supply fans ever hook up to the fan headers on a motherboard? I'm a little confused because my motherboard has a 4-pin labled pwr_fan.
Also, can you put a 3 pin fan in a 4 pin header?

A fine question to which there are two possible answers both methods have been used you can always plug in a 3 pin fan and see if it works, if no, then your motherboard is of the 1st type, if yes, the 2nd
1) pwr_fan header does not supply power but instead allows the motherboard to read the rpms or read and control the rpms of the PSU's fan (which the PSU supplies it's own power for)
2) pwr_fan header does supply power and can be used with the PSU connector or any 3 or 4 pin fan (regardless of it's location in the computer) it can also be used to control the PSU's fan (in those PSU's that have the connector) and in that case the PSU allows the computer full control of the fans
Hope it helps some
