I have an old AMD athlon 64 X2 and a Asus M2N-VN DVI mobo from a system I stripped down for the case. How realistic would it be to reuse that set up for a new build home server? As far as I understand you dont need much power for a home server, but is this too old and slow? Thanks for anyhelp!

That should get the job done just fine.

4 sata ports should totally get the job done. Gigabit LAN is ideal, and you've got it. You could put in two pci and two pcie x1 NICs if your router doesn't have enough ports. I've been playing around with using crossover cables, but there are easier ways to network and you probably don't need that at all.

Looks like that board has some nice bios overclocking features too. It's a solid board and a decent chip. They may be old, but they were quite nice in their day.

IN SHORT:
This has everything you need except for silly amounts of hard drive space.
