Hi there,
last night I turned my computer off normally and woke up this morning to discover my computer didnt want to work and was making a wierd clicking noise.
Basically what's happening is that the computer boots normally up to the desktop and it starts loading the startup programs and then the clicking noise starts happening and then I get a crash msg "windows explorer has stopped working" and it restarts itself and repeats.

Ive tried disabling all startup programs as well as a system restore to a save point 2 days ago.

When in safe mode I disabled the windws explorer and the clicking noise stopped entirely and I was able to access system restore and the msconfig easily through cmd. So it seems that the issue only occurs on the startup of the desktop involving the startup programs and strictly explorer.exe

Is there anything else i could try or is my hard disk fried? :(
Thanks

run a chkdsk/error check from within Windows.

also check the hard drive using the hard drive manufacturer diagnostic tool
