I have a Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz and will be upgrading my graphics card to a HD 7970 (may go with a GTX 680, haven't decided yet)

I was wondering if my phenom would be a bottleneck or not? Im thinking of upgrading to the FX-8350, just don't want to spend the $200 if I might not have to ya know.

Thanks for any info guys!

I think you will be fine with this processor in most of the games. You may see a very slight bottleneck in cpu intensive games like skyrim but otherwise you will be fine. Also why don't you try overclocking your cpu. A slight overclock might help you a lot.

Thanks for the help, I play Crysis 3 and Batman: Arkham City but i cant play them at full settings and after seeing some benchmarks on a few other games too, i could see a 15-20 FPS increase with the 8350 so I may go with the 8350 anyway haha.

Well if you have made up your mind then go ahead and get a fx 8350. These piledriver cpus are much much better than their bulldozer counterparts and you won't regret buying one. Good luck and have fun with your new cpu!!!!

Thanks!

I'm trying to decide between the GTX 680 or the 7970, but im leaning toward the 7970 seeing as it's cheaper with similar performance

You may consider a gtx 680 if you are conscious about power consumption. They have a 55w less tdp than a hd 7970. However if you don't mind power consumption then go with the hd 7970. They perform almost similar to a gtx 680 but cost less. Also, the hd 7970s overclock a lot better than the gtx 680s in general.

I don't mind the extra power usage. Ill be doing the 7970 by Gigabyte with the three fans.
