RAM oc on default settings M5a78l-m/USB3

Hello everyone

My recent build is Asus M5a78l-M/USB3 mobo and 2 x 4gb Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU. Processor is Phenom 965 BE.

With this mobo you have to manually overclock the RAM to achieve anything over 1333mhz, but CPU-Z shows frequency 803.6 (FSB 1.4, 9.0/9/9/24/37/2t) which concurs with Jedec 5.

So it seems to be running at 1600mhz even though I haven’t touched any settings in the bios which are all set to auto.

Any thoughts?

Hi, The SPD speed for these RAMs is 1600. The BIOS reads the SPD and accordingly adjusts the settings.

Thanks for your answer. So its running at 1600 automatically. I must have misunderstood the Asus spec as it suggests that RAM defaults to 1333 unless oc'd.
