Hi, Sorry if this is in the wrong catagory, more laptop than just graphics card .. This is a bit of a nitty gritty question. I had finally narrowed my laptop of choice down to the Ge70 which I can get for £789 (gbp). This is the 0NC version. The 0ND version would cost £1100 (gbp). After more searching I finally found that I can get the 0ND version shipped from US for approximately £850.

The only real difference between these two though is that the 0NC has a GT 650m and 10/100/1000 LAN While the 0ND has a GTX 660m and Bigfoot Killer Gaming Network LAN.

I know that this does make the 0ND a better laptop. The 660m is about 15% faster than the 650m in practice and I believe that MSI can use Nvidia turbo on the 660m which they cannot on the 650m (unconfirmed).

Is anyone aware of any other difference between these two machines? And is this small improvement really worth the extra cost? Particularly when you think that without shipping from the US, this laptop would be £300 more.

Any opinions welcome..

Thanks,

Thanks calmlikeabomb,
The Inspiron 17r SE has essentially the same specs as the 0NC for the same price so doesn't really seem to be much of an advantage over the 0NC. (some advantages/disadvantages but I like the GE70's matt display and pedigree). I like pcSpecialist, but to build a laptop with the same specs as the 0ND or similar would cost me at least the same price as the 0ND so again, no real advantage unless I had lots more money to spend to upgrade the processor etc. Unfortunately I am at about the limit of what I can safely spend without facing castration or divorce ... although .. a backlit keyboard would be nice...

As mentioned in my original post, I can get the 0ND from US for £850 which already has an i7 quad core and 17.3" rather than 15" with i5. The only advantage to this build is the GTX670. I am already struggling to justify the extra £60 to upgrade to the american 0ND for the GTX660. And only mentioned the £1100 UK 0ND as it was such a large increase for only a GPU upgrade. If my budget were actually £1100 then yes I certainly could build a faster laptop, but with the build you mentioned I would be paying an extra £150 and only gaining a GTX670 over the GTX660.

Thanks, yea that might be an option to consider. If I could get much better hardware then I might have an old copy of windows or install linux?? Although this would really need a 64 bit OS and most of my software is windows... 17.3" Optimus IV base without windows should give slightly better hardware. Not sure it this is a much better option though as it would result in a bit of a bodged mongrel. for only slightly better specs.

Hi :)

Lol...you are hopeful...

Have you ever IMPORTED a laptop ?

I import hundreds...

To import from the US , on TOP of that £850 YOU WILL pay IMPORT duty PLUS 20% VAT.... THINK AROUND 32% IN TOTAL :( plus CARRIAGE

All the best Brett :)
