Wanting to upgrade without rebuilding.

I have recently gotten back into PC gaming. Little did I know it moved as fast as it has since I built my new computer (~4 yrs ago). Want to upgrade and keep what I can of current build. I am also out of date on current tech, suggestions etc appreciated.

Starting at the top: (Current)
Cooler Master 400w PSU
ECS BLACK SERIES GF8200A
AMD Athalon 7750 Dual-Core 2.7Ghz
4 GB DDR-2 1066
ATI 4670 1GB DDR3

Looking to Upgrade the CPU, add another 4GB mem, and it appears my Video card is junk so something with it, unless upgrading other components will help that.

Possible upgrades:
Processor
Mem == Usual.
Video Card == ????????

and Thanks in advance.

More about wanting upgrade rebuilding
  1. Do you have a budget in mind for your upgrades?
  2. Possibly ~300, not set in stone but my aim is around that.

    Oh... and games Black Ops 2, Farcry 3, Planetside 2, I can play them all now but it's not very smooth gameplay.
  3. Your board supports AM£ CPUs up to 95W so an Athlon II x4 as fast as you can get would be good and either A radeon 7750 or 7770 would go well with it.. I wouldn't bother with RAM as 4Gb is fine for gaming and DDR2 is expensive.

    My board only supports PCI Express 2.0 arent all the 7000 series 3.0 only?
    How would a 6000 compare?
  5. PCIE 3 cards work fine in PCIE 2 slots (and PCIE 1).
  6. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 960T Black 3.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($144.30 @ NCIX US)
    Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7790 1GB Video Card ($155.38 @ Newegg)
    Total: $299.68
    (Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

  7. The 960T is not on the supported CPU list for the board but the 7790 is a good idea.

    It says on the official website that it is supported.

    PCI Express 3.0 cards are all compatible with 2.0. and vice versa. all but the highest cards arent even using the full capacity of 2.0 yet.
  10. Sorry I missed the 960T support.
