Old system to upgrade or not snd what parts.

I have a intel i7 920 2.67mhz with Asia p6t deluxe mb and 12 gig ram corsair 2000mhz ati 4870x2 card and raptor 600 gb hard drive. I wanted to upgrade the video and now some people say do my and CPU as well. I have 1000 power supply as well corsair gold. I don't want to spend a lot of money now.need opinion

this is for gaming and i dont want to spend to much i was thinking of doing a rampage extreme or formula for my board to use with my same cpu but to get the 6 gb advantage over the 3 that i getting now for the raptor and i was thinking of a ssd drive but i hear of all these memory issues they have and alll .I also want to upgrade my graphics as well to 7970

i think your gonna need a higher budget to run that monitor. even after the cpu and the 7970 your at almost 700$
