I'm building a new gaming computer for a friend, and my budget for it is $500-800.

These are the specs I'm considering. He is an entry level to intermediate gamer in terms of seriousness and game performance. He wants a computer were he can hit
20~30 fps in Battlefield 3.

Here are my considered specs.

Intel i5 3570 or i5 3570k (issue)
EVGA GTX 650ti (issue)
Corsair tx600 PSU
500 GB Hard Drive 7200 rpm
16GB RAM
50 GB backup hard drive
stock fan (super good though)
Z77 mobo.

I wanna know what CPU and GPU would be best for his requirements. He wants the processor to be between 3.0 and 4.0 ghz. and the GPU to have at least 512 MB of VRAM.

Any suggestions with the GPU and CPU? Gotta have it by April.

512 MB VRAM gfx cards are obsolete. You won't find a modern card with less than 1GB that's suitable for gaming. Most folks are going for 2GB now because of the high textures in games and higher resolution monitors. So, it depends on his monitor's resolution. The GTX 650ti 1GB would be about the lowest end card I would recommend for 1920x1080 and high settings with BF3. Either processor is a good choice, but the "K" will allow much easier and higher O/Cing. If he never plans on O/Cing, take the non-K.
