Hi,

Great forum you have here. I'd love some advice about the system I'm hoping to build.

Requirements
---------------
Fast dev machine, capable of running web servers, IDEs etc inside virtual machines

Shopping List
---------------
+ Intel i7 3770 - (4 x 3.4 GHZ)
+ Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H (Intel B75)
+ CiT Recon Micro ATX Interior Mesh Case with 500W 12cm PSU
+ 1 x 8gb crucial DDR PC3-10600

Edit: I meant to put this in the homebuilt forum, sorry. Please could a mod move it for me?

Well first off, your cpu and motherboard are not compatible, you need one with a z77 chipset and 1155 socket. Secondly, You should get two sticks of 4Gb ram instead of 1 8Gb, 2 sticks is faster.

If you give me a budget I can make a list of parts for you, if you would like :)

Hi,

I'm trying to establish what the lowest cost would be for an i7 with compatible motherboard and case. I'm looking to keep it under £400 if possible, but I don't know enough to say if that's a reasonable budget or not.

Changed my mind about the i7 - the i5 is a small wedge cheaper and should be good enough. My machine at work is an i5 and that performs well enough.

If you're planning to run VM's I would recommend getting 16GB of RAM. I've put together a List what your system could look like.
As I don't know what kind of storage you need I haven't added any hard or optical drives.

Depends on how many VMs you plan to run but a 3570K should handle that fine.

Also I noticed 1 x 8GB, you need 2 x 4GB to get the dual channel system to work properly.
