Portable video editing storage options

If the files are large you might want to go with the HDD over the SSD. You should look at one that has a Y adapter (1 USB connection for the drive on one end and 2 USB connectors for the computer on the other). The Y adapter may increase speed since one of the connections would be for power and the other for data. Will you be using USB 2.0 or 3.0? If you computer supplies enough power to the USB ports you can probably get by without using a Y adapter. As far as brands go that is up to you. I have a couple of older Seagate portable drives (120GB and 250GB) that I have had for years and they are still working perfectly. The portable Western Digital drives may be a good choice as well. You could always buy a 7200 RPM laptop drive and put it in a drive enclosure and make your own portable external drive.

Wow. I hadn't thought of taking a laptop drive and putting it in an enclosure. I think that is the best solution for me. Thank you!! Any suggestions on enclosure types? I have taken a look at the WD drives and will strongly consider their use...

I don't have a particular recommendation but you can check sites like Newegg, TigerDirect and Amazon. Since you want it to be portable I would think you would want a slim case. Look for one that is durable (not a lot of plastic components).
