Not planning to overclock
resolution 1920x1080 single monitor
mostly play open world rpg games like WoW, Skyrim, Fallout, Witcher 3, GTA 5, Battlefield 3, Far Cry 3, Starcraft heart of the terran. Half life 3(still waiting)
Gonna pair it up with a Radeon 7970 HIS IceQ X2 GHz Edition
Judging by the infos above, which processcor should i get for gaming only? would each one do better in certain games? Are there any cons and pros i should know about ? Thanks in advance.
Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3 are better with AMD, and so is Metro 2033. Fallout, WoW and BF3 should be a negligible difference, and GTA 5, SkyRim and StarCraft will likely favor Intel. HL 3 should be out with more heavily threaded code, which means that should favor the AMD.
teksyndicate did reviews with Far Cry 3, Metro 2033 and Crysis 3 between these 2 chips at max settings and the AMD won, especially at higher resolutions (1080p and 1440p).
AMD pros: ~$170-180 price point, easily overclocked to 4.6-4.8 GHz, AM3+ socket is good 'til 2015
AMD cons: stock cooler is loud and inefficient, get a Hyper 212 EVO or something similar.
Intel pros: Slightly more efficient power use, good single thread performance
Intel cons: ~$220-240 price point, doesn't run heavily threaded applications as well as AMD, socket 1155 is dead after Ivy Bridge, so future upgrades will require a new motherboard.
Flame on lol. just joking it really boils down to personal preference both CPUs favor different games and tasks because they are better optimized for such. either way you will be maxing out games with that cpu and gpu combination but if it was to me I would go with the 8350 them more cores will really make a difference if you decide to do some rendering and recording but like I said it's all down to personal preference anyways enjoy what you pick.
