New 7970 acting weird

So, I take out my 6950 and drop in my new Gigabyte 7970.

I power my computer back up and everything POSTs fine. I go into the desktop and install the drivers.

I then tunr off my computer, power off the PSU and unplug it to put my computer back in the cubby it sits in.

So I get everything hooked back up and turn my computer on.... and nothing.

It starts up, fans are spinning on the 7970 just fine, but nothing on the screen. Monitor goes to sleep saying I have no video source.

I take it back out, open her up and double check everything.

Plug in the power and video cable just to see what it does. Works fine, so then i put it back in the cubby, and hook everything up. Again, same result, no video.

I then open the case while its standing up and i notice the Video card is flimsy, kind of leaning toward the ground.

I put the case on its side and after an hour of troubleshooting ive come to the conclusion it will only work with the case on the side and as long as i dont tighten the bracket screws down all the way.

Any thoughts?

I thought I'd RMA it and just trade it for a GTX 680. BUT, it is working now....so....

PS. I also installed a new CPU, the FX-8350. I have a 675W PSU, 16GB DDR3 ram, 500GB HD, a single CD/DVD burner, and the graphics card. Maybe I should upgrade my PSU? Thoughts?

Sounds like an issue with your motherboard and not the card. Maybe the weight of the card is putting to much stress on the motherboard. I could be wrong.

I'm not sure. Though I did out my 6950 back in and got the same problem.

It happens if I tighten the bracket screws down all the way, but if I leave them a little loose it works fine. I'm using the 7970 now, it works, I just have a full tower case sitting on its side on my desk which is the size of my case plus about half lol.

I'm fine with it right here, just worried it may not work like this forever. I have an ASrock mobo 970 chipset. I've had it for about a year, maybe more.

That's the one I have!!! The extreme 3.

This Is the first issue I've had since I first built it.

I'm trying to send my new notebook back to HP and just use the money to build a new computer entirely. Ill be getting an ASUS board this time though

Well me and you are having the same issues with the motherboard lovely. It works fine with light cards but the biggers ones work like crap.

I plan to get the gigabyte ud3 best review that I can find

When I get my new one I am going to throw this one at the wall. I love how they call these motherboards "extreme" they are anything but extreme.

I agree. I've owned nothing but ASUS or MSI motherboards in the past and the one time I try to save some money it bites me in the rear.

I've also been thinking of just switching to intel and doing an i7 processor but I realized I just bought this 8350 so most likely ill just stick with AMD.

Im a fan boy of foxconn motherboards. IMO they are the best boards out there, I have never had a issue with them.

On another note. I have the 8350 and I like it. Im not a fan of intels boastful prices on their chips.

I know what you mean. I think I'm just going to stick with amd. I've never tried Foxconn. My crysis 3 performance has been awesome now. I can play at max settings

personally I have never noticed a difference between any of the new gen 4,6,8 core cpus. I must just tax them to there limit.

As with anything numbers are numbers if the game looks good and plays well I really dont care about 1-2 fps and spending $100's of dollars to get there.

I agree.

I used to want to buy the best and biggest stuff for bragging rights but it's true on your quote haha

It's a waste of money. I used to crossfire cards but I only play at 1920x1080 so its a waste. I have 16GB Ram but i just wanted that since i use a lot of windows of Microsoft Office at one time.

Thanks for the info!! I had no idea I'd be wasting my money. I used to be a hardcore intel and nvidia fan but for performance versus price I switched to amd. Though I am interested in crossfire so I may just go ahead and switch to intel then.

Intel is better in recent year we all know that. But the price is also allot higher. For what I do I do not notice a difference between amd and intel. For extreme gaming you will.

Well, I was going to move to intel but... I only play at 1920x1080 and don't have the budget and won't have the budget to get multiple monitors until at least another year. So ill probably just save a little money and wait. I will be getting an aftermarket cooler for my 8350 though, the stock fan is insanely loud at full load

I have mine on a 360mm rad loop, I have overclocked mine stable to around 4.9-5ghz, Its a pretty decent performance bump. i never run hotter then 35c under-load.

Sounds good, ill be needing an air cooler though as I never really over clock anything. I just want something quiet but cools my CPU well
