7870 vs 7950 - are there big differences?

Hi, want to buy new computer.. And now I dont know what will I choose for graphic card.

I want 7870 or 7950.. 7870 is there cheaper for $110 and and I'm not sure if 7950 will be significantly more powerful than the 7870..

I will use PC for gaming (1920x1080 resolution) and making animations (Maya, Adobe After Effects, 3ds Max. My CPU will be Intel Xeon E3-1230V2, MB'll be MSI B75A-G43. If I will choose 7950, I will have "just" 8GB RAM, but if I will choose 7870 - I can buy 16GB RAM (I will save some money and can buy biggest RAM).

What do you think? Will be better 7870 or 7950?

it's really up to you, you only need 8 gigs for gaming (I still get along on 4) but for animations having the 16 would help. RAM is super easy, and cheap to upgrade later on, much more so than a GPU would be. I would do it and get more ram later though.

7870 xt all the way, rougly the same price as the regular 7870, oc and you have a higher performance than 7950

But somewhere I read that the 7870 xt is worse than the 7870 with Pitcairn chip.. So I really dont know, if 7870 Pitcairn or 7950 or 7870 XT version.

Are there any comparison or review of XT and "normal" version of 7870?

7870 XT has tahiti core similar to the 7950, 7970. It is also known as 7930 which is better then the regular 7870 pitcairn and younger brother of 7950
