Overheating 9400gt, when idle

I have the following config:
Core2Duo e7400 2.8 Ghz
4 Gb DDR2 RAM
Zotac 9400GT 1Gb
500 Gb SATA
iBall 400W

My Gpu has been heating up a lot. When idle, it is around 80C and on load goes up to 100.
My CPU is around 40C when idle and HDD even lower at 35C.
I bought by GPU around 4 years back but it was always around 55-60C (idle) earlier. What could be the problem? Do i need to re-apply thermal paste?
Also, room temperature is around 25-30C at the moment

Yep, try to re-apply a thermal paste since its an old card and try to clean your pci connectors with a clean eraser.

It seems the issue was a faulty fan. It seemed to stop abruptly at times which made my gpu lose its cool.

Issue : Faulty Fan. If the temp fluctuates a lot, i guess the fan is the culprit.
Paste also needed to be reapplied.
