This is my motherboard

Basically, I used to have the FX-4100 which I could easily overclock past the 4GHZ mark with auto voltage. However, when I got my hands on this Phenom CPU I find it quite a challenge to overclock. Whenever I overclock it to 4GHZ the PC blue screens when I play games, this does not occur when browsing the internet or doing anything else other than gaming. So, are there any tips for a rookie such as myself to overclock this rather decent CPU to 4GHZ and avoiding the blue screen? What voltage do you guys recommend for this processor? The voltage that was used when the CPU was OC'd to 4GHZ was 1.56 if that helps, the CPU temp on load was about 60C average, while the motherboard temp on load was about 50-55C.

As with any CPU, your mileage may vary. 4GHz is on the high end of what most Phenom II's can achieve with stock cooling.

I suggest you go back to default voltage and then use purely the CPU multiplier to see how high it can go. Don't let the mobo set anything automatically. Once you hit a ceiling, increase voltage in small steps and keep an eye on your max temps.

The problem is, I have no idea what the CPU multiplier is. There is no such option as CPU multiplier in the BIOS. Unless the CPU Ratio is what you mean.

Almost forgot to add: My cooler is the Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO

First thing first, I suggest you take that scary ass face off your DP. It's disturbing.

Moving onnn: I have the 965 and can tell you that if you go into the BIOS, there may be an option to do "manual overclock" which will bring out the Multiplier, i would suggest you only move it up by 0.5 each time then log on to the machine and do stress tests to see that it works fine.

With my Hyper Tx3 I have managed to get my CPU to 3.8Ghz at 1.375v (Lower than stock voltage)

Will remove it in my own time haha :D

Why not go over 3.8Ghz if you can go as high as this with such a low voltage? I don't understand. And what software would you say is suitable for stress testing it?

Because I don't find it necessary, as my GPU is the real bottleneck, plus any higher and the CPU will be hitting +60C

Prime 95 is definitely the best software for stress testing

I just got Blue screened out again when testing my CPU with Arma 3 at 4 Ghz. God that's annoying.

Would you say that would be a good voltage for 4 Ghz? I tried the auto voltage and it was at 1.47 when I blue screened. It makes me assume that the voltage is simply too low.

The voltage I'm thinking of setting it to: http://oi50.tinypic.com/1zn7qc9.jpg

Fast assistance would be very useful. I play StarCraft 2 a lot so I'd say OC'ing would be great help in making the game perform significantly better.

1.5v is waaaay too high!!!
Monitor your temperatures very closely while doing a prime95 test.

Plus, Starcraft is known to be a piece of shit on AMD CPUs in general, check benchmarks.

So, could you please give me at least a very small clue as to why the PC blue screens with the OC while playing games?

It's one of two things

1. Your CPU is overheating (1.5v is extremely high) monitor your temps!

2. Your Multiplier is too high for the voltage and that you need to raise voltage - I'm pretty sure that is not the case, as 1.5 is probably going to burn out your CPU

Ran 5 Prime95 tests on 3.8Ghz with 1.49V and everything is stable. I'll give 4Ghz with this voltage a try, if it fails. I'll raise it to 1.50V.

The maximum temp was 61C.
