My gpu is a sapphire vapor-x 7970 ghz and I've notice my gpu temps going up while playing games and my fps dropping don't know if that has to do with anything but I do feel like I need to clean it.

More about : clean gpu heatsink fan shroud

Use canned air to blow out the dust. I don not recomment that you take off the heatsinks or the shroud (for most cards it violates warranty. I sometimes clean my fan blades with Qtips for built up dreck.

In most games your GPU temps will go up with extended play and FPS will decrease with rising heat. So if you are doing extreme gaming your system may be performing normally.

Oh really I was unaware of that. I'll do the can of air thing. I've notice that my gpu's heat goes up pretty high while playing bioshock infinite but its pretty constant around 62 C on bf3 and skyrim.

62 C is not bad for bf3 or skyrim.
