Hey all,

I'm a SCADA Support Analyst for a utility company and have had sort of a boggle at work with our group policy from the server once putting machines on our domain. Literally everything will work fine, everything is brought over to the newly added machine as it should, etc. The one exception being the wallpaper with our logo on it on the desktop. There have been two machines in the past two weeks that the wallpaper will just be black without the logo, however when you go to log off the logo appears momentarily until the machine is signed out of the profile. Everything else that is in the group policy has been migrated and functions perfectly, also claims that the wallpaper has been imported as well.

I'm literally stumped. Tried updating the graphics drivers, updating all Windows updates, etc. nothing seems to be working. Any suggestions?

Also for the record the machines are using Windows 7 x64.

Thank you,

sounds like those pc may have problems with group policy being applied.
i would try running these commands to see if group policy is being applied correctly.
to see if it is a pc or user policy. open a command propt and type
gpresult /r this will load rsop info and will show what security groups this user is in, what gpo's are applied and the last time it was applied.
gpresult /user targetusername /v
replace targetusername with the username that is logged on to see what permissions are applied to the user.
if you notice that one of the objects are not applied type gpupdate /force and y if asked if you would like to apply and reboot.

The user is setting the wallpaper. You're setting wallpaper for the computer, the user is setting their own. You need to disable their ability to change wallpapers.

You can copy the graphic locally to the computer (C:\windows\web or wallpaper or something) and then point to that locally.

Review GPOs, RSoP on the systems to see where the user is allow to set it.

When you are using windows server 2003 edition, and group policy not showing computer configuration or user configuration. It very easy to show all items, but you need to configure all setting again, So, lets start a easy way too.

Start - cmd - Right click - run as administrator c:> gpedit.msc - enter

click on computer configuration - select administrative template - click on action menu - add/remove template - click on add - select system.adm - open - close - on command prompt - c:>gpupdate /force -enter.

After doing this you will get all listed policy in administrative template of computer configuration.
