First time building a computer. Currently all air cooling (picture below) and the temperatures are bearable but nothing spectacular and nothing i'm complacent with when overclocked. More to come, have to take into account many factors before decisions with the biggest one being the W.A.F (Wife Acceptance Factor)

Here is a list of the current components

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
  • CPU Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BK 78.1 CFM CPU Cooler
  • Motherboard: Asus Maximus V Formula EATX LGA1155 Motherboard
  • Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
  • Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
  • Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card (2-Way SLI)
  • Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card (2-Way SLI)
  • Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 800D ATX Full Tower Case
  • Power Supply: Corsair Professional 850W 80 PLUS Silver Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
  • Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224BB DVD/CD Writer

  • What it currently looks like

What is used to be (very minor change as of now)

    WIRES Updated 04/01/2013

Ordered these from corsair to tidy up the internals. Will post pictures when the package arrives all the way from CA! Taking its sweet old time.

Ooh I've been waiting for this one ever since I first saw your post on the member's system gallery. :D  Looks like it should be awesome!

How comes you aren't going for fully custom sleeving though? I'm a big advocate (despite the occasional burn lol..)

Reminds me I need to update my upgrade log...

Thanks marshall! I wanted an all red theme (initially, will probably change) so I chose to go the easy way and order them from corsair. I'll have to look up how extensive custom sleeving is to see if I want to take on that task!

Also if anyone wants a sketchup of their case before they make changes let me know. If i have time I can try to put something together for you.

Yes, it is a very "involved" process. Check out MDPC though if you ever become interested. They're the best in the business. It does take time and practice though, it's probably taken 15+ hours of just solid sleeving to get me thus far, and I haven't even done the 24 pin ATX or the 8 pin CPU...

Thanks M. I went to their website and it seems like its "closed" :S

Unfortunatley I thought my PSU was fully modular, however the 8 pin and the 24 pin are within the casing. So i'll have to use adapters and sleeve those rather than having to get another PSU.

Let's see how the all RED wires look!

    April 2, 2013 12:53:30 AM

Dis gunna be good :D .

With the 24pin and 8pin cables, Bitfenix Alchemy extensions are pre-sleeved and come in red. I use a 24pin extension (for the actually legit reason of it needing to be extended) in red, and its very good quality.

    Modded side panel window, nice.
Though I do wonder whats the point when there is already a fairly large window there, and all you seem to be doing is making it smaller by removing the curve of it :/ .

Make sure you don't go overkill with case lighting and its general red-ness, minimalism is sometimes best. I used to have two red LED strips in my rig, whole thing was lit up with a harsh red light and you could see every imperfection. Took them out, and now I just have a soft glow from a side fan and my water-block has this awesome backlight effect from the embedded LED's. Very nice shine off the graphics card if you look at it from the right angle.
    Looks far better.

Any info on the water? There has to be a reason that "Liquid Cooled" is in the title.

Thanks for the info. On the bitfenix extensions!
Liquid cooling plans are in their infancy stage currently…Questions I’ve asked myself:

    • Are you currently happy with your temperatures at the moment?

      NO!

    • What do I want to do with this computer?

Gaming, 3d Max, Sony Vegas (editing) and general use.

    • How well do I want these programs to perform?

      The best they can

    • What is needed for that to happen?

Don’t know that yet but I think I’m on the right track

    • What needs to be cooled?

GPU, CPU, Motherboard (luckily mine already has the block on the VRMs)

    • How much are you willing to spend?

not an issue, willing to spend however much as long as I get the most utility and happiness.

    • Do you want to achieve a certain DELTA number in your loop?

Yes, but that may lead to a very loud rig.

    • So what does that leave you with to do?

Sketchup the layout of the RADs (three) and tubing, CPU block, GPU blocks, tubing, compression fittings. I know I’m missing a lot probably, but it’s a start.

Yeah Biftenix extensions are fantastic, they're heatshrinkless (unlike Corsair's stuff) which is really nice.

The International site is only open at very specific times unfortunately (it's run by one single guy -- Nils -- who is kind of a legend :p ). You can always check out their German store with Google Translate though: http://de.mdpc-x.com/ Their cabling hooks (Kabelkrimkrams) are one thing you could consider, as I think they look much, much better than cable ties, if you're concerned about the build looking clean from all angles: http://de.mdpc-x.com/mdpc-kabelkrimskrams.htm

EDIT: Since you're going with extensions for the 24/8 Pin (and you want a ROG theme) what I think looks really good is if there is a mixed black and red theme to the wires (I don't know if they sell ones like this, they might do mixed colours though). It's not too hard to do yourself though, all you need is to get one red extension and one black -- make sure they're the same length -- (or both colors of each if you truly want to mix the colours) and re-pin them (it's not tough, just takes patience and some staples -- honestly staples are the best tool).

In regards to water, you will want to start here.
    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/277130-29-read-firs...
It will teach you near everything you need to know.

For the sake of cleanliness (this is your build log after all), would make a separate thread about the water aspect of the build and just post the results here. Discussions on water can take a while.

Damn, I'v been interested in custom sleeving my cables for a while now, and all this talk of it is making me want too.
Gah, I'v got other upgrades to do!
    April 2, 2013 12:28:48 PM

Thanks, manofchalk. I'll try to seperate this into results rather than discussion and then cite all of the resources I used so that if someone wants similar results they can reference the same resources!
    April 3, 2013 4:37:06 PM

Update: The cables should be arriving tomorrow! Once I'm done with all of the cable management i'll post some pictures to see what you guys think and to determine if individual custom sleeving would be a better option... at least color wise.
    April 4, 2013 4:54:29 PM

Updated! Added the sleeved wires to the mix. I still need the 24 pin and a male-male CPU wire to use the sleeved one I got.

    April 4, 2013 4:59:41 PM

Looks great! Seems like your dog is appreciating the sleeved cables as much as we are :D  It does make the 24 pin look quite out of place though, get on some of those Bitfenix extenders ASAP!

How's it looking from the back?

    April 4, 2013 5:02:43 PM

Hah! He's a spaz...he thought they were toys and tried to chew / yank on them when I was carrying them over.

Yeah I need to get that extender pronto, and I also need to get an extender for the CPU wire since its within the PSU itself.

I actually spent some time organizing the back, but its nothing i'm proud of! I need to get some zip ties and mounts to organize the wires back there. Currently there is a noticeable bulge in the back panel when its closed.
    April 4, 2013 5:44:56 PM

Ah yeah, I had the same "bulge" issue with my 650D. I dunno about the space behind the 800D, but it's not super wide for the 650D. It took quite some time to get my backplate as flush as it is now, and cable ties are definitely a big help for that.

A little update on the loop order im' thinking of.

    April 28, 2013 12:17:43 AM

Swap the tubes on the top rad, crossing tubes never looks good.
Otherwise I dont see any issues with that. Now we got to start talking parts  .
    April 28, 2013 1:03:21 AM

You're right, well, that an easy fix on the drawing! haha Now for parts...I'm thinking koolance blocks, Black Ice rad's and D5 pumps...I'm debating over using dye in my water or not (I know its not recommended )
    April 28, 2013 5:32:03 AM

From what I'd heard, I wouldn't want any dye gunking up my pumps/blocks. Coloured pipes are the way to go from the looks of it.

What sort of colours are you going for? Blue as in your diagram?
