I have been using a pair of Gigabyte factory overclocked 6850s in crossfire close to a couple of years now. They have been good cards, I can play most games in High and some in ultra detail.

Unfortunately my cards seem to use a different voltage regulator to the normal 6850s out there so I cant tweak the voltage to get a stable overclock on the cards much higher than the factory overclock. Haven't bothered to test to see if one card overclocks well and the other doesn't.

I am wondering if its worth upgrading to a single 7970 or a 670. I am currently running an i5 2500k clocked at 4.5GHZ with 8GB of DDR1600. I game on a 23" monitor @ 1920 x 1080 res

I have noticed that the prices of the 7970 and 670 can be had for around $400 AU

Looking at road maps from Nvidia and AMD nothing major will be changing till 2014. Sure there will be some improvements in the next series but its not like a major architectural change or a die shrink from what I have read on the net

I can always sell my old cards on e-bay recover part of the cost

I might be keen to one day upgrade to 3 monitors in eyefinity although this is not a priority

Let me know your thoughts

Cheers
