The IRS encourages people to e-file for free: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Free-File:-Do-Your-Federal-Taxes... .

Considering all the hoopla about revealing personal information online for free, would this result in revealing one-and-a-half shitloads of personal information to some company that you have never heard of before? Are they mining the information? Might they in the future?

Heck, you can get your refund deposited to your bank account. But you have to provide the account number and routing transit number. You can be robbed with those two pieces of information.

The scams have been on-going ever since people were allowed to file online. I think it's like a $10 billion a year industry for theft.
