So I have been wanting to change from console to pc gaming for a while now and I'm in need of help for a build! I'm looking for a pc capable of playing games such as Battlefield 3, LoL, Dayz, CS, TF2 and possibly Crysis 3. I'm hoping for it to be able to run modern games at low-medium settings while maintaining good framerates. I am on a pretty tight budget (700$) and the parts here in Canada are slightly more expensive... But my budget may be slightly expandable.

Thanks for reading!

look at these :
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

you can view every single item and find other stores that may have offers on parts
this should be plenty enough for your goals and budget

best wishes

keep in mind tha HD 7850 needs power supply at least 500w (according to AMD & Sapphire)

It's your call ... but the 7850 is more powerful than gtx650 ti and the price difference is minimal (4 canadian dollar) and you'll get faster and more capable Gaming PC

It's a 650 ti boost which happens to be a few frames faster than that of the 7850, you should really look into this GPU.

The thing about the build I recommended is that there is so much more room for potential, you can overclock and the 8350 out performs the 3470 is just about every setting there is.

First of all ... my build has i5-3550 NOT 3470
secondly : when it comes to benchmarks comparing fx-8350 w/ i5-3470 i beg to differ
read this :

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/702?vs=697

and the thrd thing :
GPU is not about fixed values, it's about performance w/ games
as you might know some games favor Nvidia and the other favor radeon, but you can determine which GPU to choose by the games you play Not by zillion conflicting benchmarks ( the variables are countless ) plus the CPU often bottlenecks the GPU and with results of pure (AGAIN .. pure ) CPU testing the i5 surpasses vischera by far in every application

Thanks for helping me out guys! I like both of your builds but prefer the hd 7850 for the sheer fact that it comes with 2 games which I was going to purchase in the near future. Processor wise I am still uncertain of which one I should get. The i5 is a great looking processor but like Bob said the fx 8350 has so much OC potentiel... :/

Like i said .. it's your call
but just for the facts ... the vishera is an excellent processor it has 8 cores and already unlocked and base speed is 4.0 GHz
but clock for clock, logically speaking the AMD's FX-8350 is not On par with the i5... keep in mind that AMD had to come up with an 8-core cpu to compete with a 4-core of Intel's

and to back it up with real-life tests here r some insights :

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6396/the-vishera-review-amd-fx8350-fx8320-fx6300-and-fx4300-tested/5

read carefully and study the benchmarks on games

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fx-8350-vishera-review,3328-14.html

AGAIN ... study benchmarks and game settings

keep in mind that i5-3570K is just the overclock-able version of i5-3550

besides AMD's upgrade Path isn't promising, while Intel's is great down the road
And i say it again : it's your call

Best wishes

The i5 3550p is actually even slower than that of the i5 3470, if you have to go with intel you should just go with the 3470....

At this budget the 8350 is arguably better, at this price point your better option is to go with the slightly more powerful 650ti boost and the slightly more powerful 8350... if I got the choice between a small pizza and a large pizza at the same time, why would you not choose the large 1. So pick the better performer, even if AMD does not have a very bright future the 8350 will stay better than the 3550p...

Ok, so let's review some facts:-

1- AMD FX-8350 surpasses all core i5 stock-locked CPUs, but when intel releases a K-series (=unlocked) it smokes the vishera by far

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-3570K-vs-AMD-FX-8350-Black-Edition

2-(Already stated) AMD came up with an OCTA-CORE CPU to compete with a QUAD-CORE i5 of Intel.

Keep in mind that AMD also is POWER-HUNGRY, while intel is NOT.

3-Let me ask you a question : you got the vishera, the latest of AMD with lots of potential, ok ... what's next ?
I mean after 3-4 years when the cutting-edge becomes old-school, what will you get from amd, and would amd guarantee stronger performance for the new edition ( we all still remember what happened between phenom II and Bulldozer...total disappointment)

Intel on the other hand -again- has great unrivaled upgrade path, makes it worth every penny

And it all comes to the OP, it's his call

It all comes down to getting the better PC, just because AMD had to use more parts and cannot compete with a few cores in intel or more l2 / l3 cache doesn't mean the CPU is worse.

You did not select a K series CPU which means the AMD cpu will beat the i5 easily as of the moment, and you can overclock this sucker like no other.

Power hungry does not matter if you have a substantial PSU, and also its maybe by 50w, again performs better so that does not matter.

The 1155 socket is dead, and you say there is an upgrade path... that's funny, because for a couple more generations you can upgrade every part in this computer while yours is the end of the road, you will have to replace motherboard as well as build an entirely different computer...

Get the more powerful PC don't let him think the intel wins with this one...

what's really funny is you reversing the facts and ignoring that am3+ and vishera are THE END OF ROAD not socket 1155 which has core i7 cpus that will still here for years to come and every single one of them can crush vishera big time

study the facts before stating an opinion

You do realize that Haswell is going to be on a new socket right?(1150) Steamroller will be on the am3+ socket.....
