Both my heads are cracked and i was wondering could it have done any major damage to the block. I cant afford a new engine but i can afford new heads but don't want to wast the money on heads if the block is cracked. How would i check the block to make sure its good.

The block is usually tougher than a head. I have never seen a broken block due to cracked heads. I have seen scored cylinders and pistons due to overheating from coolant loss and melted pistons from coolant entering the cylinders. There is really no other way to check than pulling the heads and inspecting further. What type of vehicle do you own? If it's a Cadillac with a Northstar V8 then no questions are needed as those heads are notorious for busting. Other than that having two cracking at the same time seems a little odd to me.

I just replaced the heads and it ran well for about 30 min but now i have an over heating problem. The check engine light came on, read the code and it said it was the IAT Sensor 1 Circuit Low input. I have no idea what it dose but would like to try and know a little more before i just start throwing more money and time into it.
