Visual Basic 6 driver problems

I am trying to install Visual Basic 6 Professional Edition onto my computer, which is XP. But everytime I attempt to install it, it shows me an error stating that there is a missing 16-bit system module and that I need to "Re-install the following module to your system32 directory: MOUSE.DRV". I have uninstalled and reinstalled my mouse drivers numerous times, but the program still comes up with the same error message each time. How do I fix this?

  1. Windows XP is a 32 bit OS and uses 32 bit drivers. It makes no sense that you should/would be using a 16 bit mouse driver.

I realise that, I don't know why my mouse is 16 bit either, it's the Microsoft wireless mouse 1000
