Hi, I was looking at the GPU hierarchy chart because I wanted to make a brief research about when a low end graphics solution matches a flagship GPU from a previous era.

As an example the 9800GX2 (enthusiast card released in march 2008) was listed in the same tier as a 7770 (low end GPU from February 2012) however I went to HW compare and other than power consumption and newer features like Directx 11, the 9800gx2 seems better by a good margin at least in theory.

http://www.hwcompare.com/11937/geforce-9800-gx2-vs-radeon-hd-7770/

Any thoughts about this? I expected much better results for the 7770 since according to tom's they are at the same level.

Thanks!

Its only slower in new games because of the direct x loss. Think about it in simple terms. a gtx 260 is about the same speed as a 460 in older games with dx 9 but when it comes to 10-11 the 460 will destroy it.

Well, let me give u some advice:
"Never compare two cards on Paper"
and never go to hwcompare.
search for benchmarks.
7770 will probably beat the 9800GX2.
By the way y r u asking these questions?
are u looking to buy 7770?

Hi , no it's ok I'm not planning to buy a GPU. I just wanted to compare when you can have the power of a given flagship card in a low end card of a new generation to estimate how much power will I handle when I upgrade my rig in a couple of years. Titanlike power for 200 bucks by that time?

Guess I had too much time in my hands:lol:
