I am currently looking into building a pc because mine currently is quite rubbish(its the dell dimension 3000)
Anyway I plan to build it so that I can play such games as Sim City, Fifa 13(and 14) Civilization V and The Elder Scrolls series, maybe need for speed.
Planned Parts:
AMD Vishera FX-6300 3.5 Ghz and 6 cores
8Gb of any RAM from a reputable source
Radeon HD 7770 Ghz edition
GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 Atx MoBo
Chronos Enhanced Muskin 90Gb SSD
500Gb HDD 7200 Rpm probably WD
Case I'm not particularly bothered by, will probably go with a Coolermaster.
When or if the GTX 650 Ti becomes as cheap as the 7770 as nvidia said it would I will change to that. So, firstly should I go with Intel over AMD?
Secondly, what do you think of my build and what comments or suggestions do you have?
My thanks in advance

I would go with the 6300 b/c Steamroller will still be on AM3+ and 1155 is a dead end. The 7770 is pretty weak so try to save some money on other parts and go with a 650 Ti Boost or 7850. Re-use your HDD and buy a 64GB SSD.

I would but currently my HDD has only 40GB of storage space. Also, it is getting to be 9(? I am not exactly sure) years old and it feels slower now then it has done and it has been full for a while, even with me constantly removing stuff. As well I think it probably has picked up a virus which neither norton nor ad-aware could spot and I wasn't willing to buy Spyhunter 4 to get rid of the 762 threats (I know, Norton needs to up its game) that Ad-Aware and Norton couldn't detect. Therefore the new HDD is a must for me. When you say weak will the HD 7770 (paired with the FX-6300) be able to run these games at fairly high settings with consistent frame rates. Anything's an improvement for me at this point, I can't even open Age Of Empires 3 because my integrated graphics isn't good enough. (I don't mind anyway though as I can run AOE 2 which I enjoy far more than when I played AOE 3 at a friend's.)

I have the 3220 and am very happy with it. Yeah it bottlenecks my 3 times the cost GPU but the little guy seems to offer a lot of bang for the buck. I haven't used any of the amd fx processors so I cants say whether they are good or not from personal use. If I were you... Hmm I think I might actually buy the AMD. On the GPU without doubt wait till nvidia settles where which GPU will be priced then buy the 650ti or 650ti boost. Shouldn't have to wait but a week or two on that

The FX6300 is a great choice for a budget gamer...you should enjoy it well.

This build would cost you $656 including a new windows license, if you have windows 7/8 you can install or plan to go Linux, you can cut $99.99 off the top.

CPU - AMD FX 6300
RAM - Crucial 4 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (you can pick up 2 of these for 8 GB)
GPU - Asus Radeon HD 7770 GHz edition
MoBo - Asus M5A97 LE (I prefer Asus but your choice is fine...)
HDD - WD 1 TB 7200 RPM Caviar blue 64 MB cache
Case - Zalman z11plus (I have this case, it's a GREAT case for the money)
PSU - CoolerMaster 460W Elite Power

Yes, go AMD over intel at your price point. If you can afford more $ in the build, don't spend it on a SSD, buy a HD 7870XT instead...trust me on this one, SSD will be much cheaper in about 12 months time...and the difference isn't going to be that dramatic as much as the GPU. If that particular SSD is really pricey, I would even go to a HD 7950/7970 instead...

I haven't set out a budget as such I merely wish to get the best value for my money without pending anything over 650-700 pounds sterling and be able to play all these games very smoothly as decent graphics settings and hopefully their sequels and some other assorted games that I haven't yet discovered.

If you live anywhere near a Microcenter, you can get the FX-6300 with a motherboard for $119. The motherboard is an older design though, and not good enough for higher wattage processors.

Personally I would suggest the FX-8320 with a higher end motherboard for $175. That gives you USB 3.0 and a motherboard that can take up to a 145W processor.

It's probably overkill vs what you need, but it's actually within spitting distance of the cost of an i3 + motherboard, and would just run all over the i3 performance wise.

Unfortunately for me I live in England. Would your suggestion still apply?

I have now built it with the FX-6300 and have to say I am very pleased. However I also got a Galaxy GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB as well rather than the HD 7770 and swapped MoBos to the AsRock 970 Extreme 3.
