I am going to build my first computer and will probably use it for some video editing (adobe after effects) , occasionally game and generally multitask a lot. My aim is a computer which will be good enough for the next few years but is easily expandable and future proof.
So far i have chosen :
Processor - Intel i7 3820
Motherboard - Asus P9X79 PRO
SSD -SanDisk Extreme 128GB 2.5 inch Solid State Drive
Graphics Card - Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 650
Fan - Corsair Hydro Series H80i
Case - Fractal R4
Power Supply - CiT 850W 12cm Silent Fan Dual Rail Power Supply
RAM -Corsair Vengeance 16 GB(2X8gb) 1600Mhz
I also have a mouse/keyboard screen and a dual band wireless PCIe adapter. Is that everything i will need and is that a good choice of components.

An i7 3820 is an overkill for this setup. Go with a 3770k and a z77 chipset and you wont notice much of a difference in performance but it will cost less. You can invest the extra money on a better gpu like a gtx 650 ti boost.

Also your psu is an overkill for this setup. A 600w psu is more than enough for this setup even with a gtx 650 ti boost. but to have some additional headroom for overclocking you can get a 650w psu but 850w  is an absolute overkill.

I found that the cheapest i7 3820 I could find new was £230 whereas the cheapest i7 3770k I could find was £250 but also the P9X79 PRO is a Socket 2011 motherboard although the z77 chipsets are Socket 1155 , I would rather go for the socket 2011 because that is more future proof , am I correct? That is the main reason i have chosen to build my own PC, so that i can change it in the future instead of buying/building a whole new PC.

If you get the 3820 that price then go ahead and grab the 3820. And yes the socket 2011 is much more future proof than the socket 1155. The ivybridge E cpus are going to be on the socket 2011 whereas the sosket 1155 is dead once haswell comes out.

But as I said before, your psu is a total overkill.....please get a 600w psu and spend the extra bucks on a better gpu.
