but i see people play in core 2 duo with gtx 280 or 9800 gt in medium to high setting

Your system is really old and not worth upgrading, because the benefits are very limited and you will be buying very obsolete products.

Especially when you have only $80 to spend on a card. I would not get the core 2 duo and graphics card, but wait till I have enough money to make a new system that is worth every dollar spent.

Did ddr3 ram exist with that mobo....i really dont think so!!!
If you are getting a core 2 duo next week, then look for deals on a 9800 gt...

That card is unbelievably powerful for a 17 -19 inch screen and is still capable of blowing the doors of the latest video games like bf 3, crysis 2, sleeping dogs, alan wake, bulletstorm, bioshock infinite......etc..etc...(not crysis 3 sadly)

but a 9800 gt costs around 100 us dollars...but still i'd say that look for deals...
U can play anything and everything(on high ultra with acceptable frame rates) with a 9800 GT paired with a decent core 2 duo(like e7400 @ 2.8gHZ) , 4 gigs of ram...

But if you dont have a decent 400 watt PSU(antec, corsair, etc), then you have no choice because a 9800 gt is extremely power hungry for its performance....!!
and in that case, just wait and collect more money.....
Best of luck

And to anyone who comments.....
''High ultra in all games'' is applicable with a 9800 GT only when you play on 1280*768 resolution with anti aliasing off or 2x max...

the 7750 is modern in every aspect and even is dx11.....
it does basically the same job as a 9800gt (every game high ultra on 1280*768) and uses half of its power
btw newer tech. is always a welcome.....
best of luck..
