Hello all in total I'm going to spend about $2200 on my first custom PC so i wanna make sure i'm not screwing up. I've been doing a lot of research for EVERYTHING that's below but I'm not knowledgeable enough about these things to know for sure that i choose good stuff. I've been going to a computer repair place here in town to help me decide on what to get and he said that I'm going overboard with it a little but says that I'll be very happy with what I'm getting, but it doesn't hurt to get some extra opinions. Mainly going to be gaming with this on a single Samsung 120 hz 40 inch TV (i may upgrade to an actual monitor after a while).

I looked at the DH-14 but it is far bigger than I'm willing to deal with. I was also looking at the H90 and H80i corsair water coolers but i don't think they will be able to cool as well as the 110, could be totally wrong though.

I was also concerned that i may be really crappy RAM because it is so cheap but nothing else i've found that comes close to what it runs that would justify me spending more for something that is just as good or slightly cheaper(i combod the ram with the motherboard to save the $25, the ram initially was $104.99)

also is there some kind of connector for fans that would combine 2 into 1 so that way i can control all the fans which will be difficult to do otherwise (my friend has the same tower case so i know what to expect with it)

This is very much appreciated and hopefully yall will help me stop worrying about this so i can get on with buying it.

for simplicities sake i'll just copy your entire post and add my comments below with dashes.

ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM

-just about any cd/dvd drive works. if you do any cd/dvd writing or burning it may be good to have two drives. if you plan on using the system for movie watching perhaps a blue ray drive may be a good idea if you watch bluerays. oem is perfectly fine.

-this looks like a full tower case to me. you may possibly need cable extensions or longer cables inside. i have a corsair obsidian 800d which looks to be similar in size and layout and this is true. organization grommets are are definitely worth the extra money. as far as airflow is concerned it looks like it supports enough fans from a quick google image search.

-good solid drive however i would suggest that you seriously think about having a ssd drive as a boot drive. having this drive as your main drive will be the chokepoint in an otherwise good setup. 120gb at minimum but i would highly suggest a 256gb ssd from corsair or intel. the 1gb can then be your backup & bulk storage drive.

-i would highly suggest a corsair power supply. 1000w is definitely overkill. do a power calulation (search google for psu power calculator) and see what the number is. add 100-200w on top of this for some headroom unless of course you decide for multigpu in the future. i personally use a 1000w but my max draw is only 440. i got a very good deal though. corsair psus are rock solid, i dont like recommending brands i am not familiar with as a psu failure can take down your entire system.

-just about any keyboard will work. personally i prefer my mechanical boards (check out wasd) but i can see why you want to save money. just remember that a good mouse and keyboard is just as important as your hardware. these are your primary input devices so you want them to work well for you instead of being a bother. with that said, your choice is basic but should work fine.

-see above keyboard comment. why an abyssus over a deathadder? are you a lefty? i own a deathadder and it works well however it attracts dust like a magnet. good solid choice though. logitech g series mice are an alternate if you wanted to look.

-unless you plan on overclocking you may as well avoid this for now. the stock cooler works more than well enough in most cases. if you do want to overclock (not much point to it really since you already have a good cpu) or want an aftermarket cooler for some reason (not really required) i would suggest staying with air cooling. big air cooling is cheaper and marginally higher temp than water cooling which is expensive.

-any particular reason you need such a high end processor? you can shave money off and buy a quad core and use the money for your ssd which will give you a bigger boost than a hexacore over quadcore. just a suggestion of course.

-you listed $674 as the ram price here but later listed it as $104. hopefully the latter is correct! personally i would highly suggest mushkin as a company now that ocz is out of the business. excellent product. corsair is also a good choice. is your mobo double or triple channel? match your ram sticks to this figure. 16gb is a bit overkill but some games (like cysis 3 and tomb raider) are hogs and it may help. personally i would rather use 4x4gb sticks in dual channel over 2x8gb in dual channel since smaller sticks are normally faster. your choice though.

also is there some kind of connector for fans that would combine 2 into 1 so that way i can control all the fans which will be difficult to do otherwise (my friend has the same tower case so i know what to expect with it)
-if you want to control fans nothing beats a front bay rheobus (fan control with knobs on it) or digital fan control (same thing but with digital display and controls instead of mechanical). i would not try and plug more than one fan into each motherboard fan slot and the cpu fan always should get plugged into the motherboard not a front bay device. controlling fans is a cakewalk, especially if you have a front bay device.

--

i did not go over things such as cpu socket types matching your cpu, dual channel or triple channel ram or the psu having enough connectors for your hardware. you need to go over all interfaces like this before purchasing anything.

i would highly suggest buying some artic silver thermal paste for the cpu and possibly a front bay fan device.

just some ideas of course.

thanks for that reply it does seem like i may need to look over some things. but i'm going for that CPU partly because why not and i Haven't seen any negatives about it besides the price of course. and I may go SLI in the future MAYBE. and the channel memory for my mobo is something that i don't believe i've looked at so I'm gonna go look at that for sure. would having just that hard drive actually bottleneck my system? because i thought it would be fast enough that it at least wouldn't be a big or really any issue. is arctic really that much better than all the other thermal compounds out there?

cpu: again, your choice. just giving you the option to save money or use the money for more upgrade parts.

ram: yes, do check that. my system for example is triple channel so i must use 3 or 6 sticks.

sli: as far as i know sli still requires the same cards to be used. finding one may be harder the longer you wait. crossfire can be used with two different amd cards. so far i've never had to sli but then again i dont game on the bleeding edge either.

ssd: yes, a hdd will be the bottleneck in your system. a hdd just is not capable of accessing data fast enough. on the other hand, some ssd drives will make your cpu or gpu the bottleneck point. the term bottleneck does not have to refer to "bad performance" just the part which is the limiter. you can get away fine with that hard drive however the shift to a ssd is massive. boot in 8-9 seconds fast. programs open faster, game levels load almost instant, etcetera. i would go with the brands i recommended though as they are solid performers without as many issues.

i'm not sure how well artic performs compared to other compounds but it most certainly is better than the stock compound on heatsinks right out of the box. a tube is cheap and will last you at least 5 builds (i still have my 10 year old tube of artic silver 5)
