Cloning OS problems

I've bought a new WD 1TB HDD..I want to clone my Vista OS to it...however this is an OEM version(came preinstalled). I've heard that cloning will not work due to the original HDD being tatooed to the system so the original key won't work with a new drive as it will know its a different HDD (Microsoft antipiracy stuff), so you have to find some kind of dmi editor or such like. I'm running an HP pavilion with a seagate drive that is becoming dodgy, so wanted to clone everything including OS to new drive before I lose it. Any help? Advice?

In HP's case, it's more likely they mark there disks so you have to buy he replacement which is printed in the disk's label but I have done this frequently on all makes and never had the problem you describe.

OK thanks for that....in the end I decided on fitting a second HDD with Win 7 and using my original as storage.
