Hello, I'm trying to assemble my first computer for gaming and I just feel unsure about ordering all of these parts to find out I made a costly error. I have a few concerns addressing the OS (windows 7 or 8?) as well as the general components. All input would be greatly appreciated thank you.

I personally wouldn't bother with an FX CPU. A lot of people will tell you otherwise but the benchmarks don't lie in that Intel is always better for gaming.

I love the R4 but I usually reserve that for budgets of $1500 or more. The XFX is a rebranded Seasonic, so I don't see how that's better than the one I included. They're about the same.
 


The case you suggested is more expensive than the R4...

According to PC Part Picker the Phantom is $89, the Define R4 is $109, and the Define R4 windowed version is $119. Where is the R4 cheaper?
