I have been using windows for as long as I can remember, but recently, I have really been wanting to switch to Ubuntu for various reasons that I just don't want to get into right now.
I still want to keep the hard drive that I currently am using Windows 7 on, and I have a spare hard drive lying around that has Windows Vista. This hard drive does not have anything of value on it but I am still unsure about a couple of things.
1. What is the difference between formatting a hard drive and wiping it, and is wiping the same as actually deleting everything?
2. When you install Ubuntu on a hard drive that already has another operating system, does it automatically format/wipe the drive?
3. Is there a right way to install Ubuntu? It seems to me that there are numerous different ways of installing it, such as from a cd/dvd, flash drive, or just straight from the website, where it gives you the option to set up a dual boot or to replace your current operating system.
